JuJu Japanese Tavern Restaurant

Recently I went out with the Nippon Student Association (NSA) Club to their end of session dinner. Which was to celebrate the end of university semester or the beginning of exams...however you want to look at it... Anyway, we went to a quite famous, well had good reviews, restaurant in Kings Cross called JuJu. It's a Japanese styled restaurant, with a great atmosphere. Although this post will mainly be about food, it's going to reveal how horrible I am at food photography. When people said don't use direct flash for food.... you would be wise to listen to that advice. I should mention that the lighting is quite bad for photography, hence I needed a flash. Putting the Skills to the Test - Food Pt 2

So, I've been quite busy lately and haven't been able to find time to update this blog. But here is the long awaited Food Photography part 2!! Excited right?! Right, this time, we'll be looking at some shots of Vietnamese food. On the day after the food photography presentation, the UNSW Photoclub went out to Cabramatta for some apply-what-you-just-learnt-style food photography. Getting a abit hungry? Putting the Skills to the Test - Food Pt 1

As promised, I will share some of my adventures with food photography with you today. So, after attending the food photography presentation by Simon Park, I got interested and attempted some food photography myself. I will be talking about 2 events that happened over the course of a few days. Check them out after the jump.So coincidental, after the food photography presentation with Simon Park, I went out to dinner with my family. I live near Rhodes, so for convenience, we went to Tomodachi, a sushi train place in the Rhodes Shopping Centre. From the outside, this restaurant looks nice, and has an Asian feel for it.

Has any of you readers out there read the blog The Heart of Food? if not, stop reading this and go to that first!! Anyway, so Simon Park (blogger of The Heart of Food) came in, and gave us a very impressive presentation about his style of photography. Oh! He also brought along a surprise for the end of the class ;p

 

Every Friday afternoon, UNSW Photoclub holds some sort of tutorial/lecture/workshop kind of thing, where people learn how to be a better photographer. Last week, we had a food blogger come in to talk about food photography!!

Aseana Food Village

On Wednesday the University of New South Wales held an International Night Market kind of event. It was basically a festival to celebrate the multiculturalism of UNSW. More excitingly, I had the opportunity to help out on the stores that hand a stand there, Aseana Food Village. They are the UNSW Photoclub's (which I am a part of) sponsors, and they wanted a volunteer to take pictures for them. So I thought great! A chance to practice some event photography and to use my new flash.

Oh, I never actually explained yet. I use Pentax K-r, a pretty beginner sort of DSLR. And for that night, I took my 35mm f2.4 and a Metz 58-AF2 flash.
